Facial laceration was the most common injury accounting for 47.9% of all injuries, followed by injuries of the hand (13.5%), nose (10.4%), and eye (8.3%).

No sport is entirely safe – people are hit by golf balls – but MMA is much safer, according to the numbers, than many people believe. Compare that to professional athletes in sports like football and hockey, in which many players are injured in nearly every game, once or several times each week!
