Former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk is today's guest on MMARated Radio. "The Muscle Shark" spoke to us about his dominant victory Tyson Griffin at UFC 90, getting over his loss to B.J. Penn in May, his place in the UFC lightweight division, when he thinks he will receive another shot at the title, Penn's decision to fight for the welterweight belt, Armando Garcia's demise and much more.
Here's a taste of what Sherk had to say about Garcia:
"I knew some stuff about him throughout the entire appeal process that I was going through. You know, I was doing my homework, I was doing my research and I knew the guy had some issues. I mean, I knew that just by the way he treated me during my case. I knew that it was just a matter of time...and I am glad to see that is finally taking place.
"I think that you don't really deserve a position of power if you are going to take advantage of it like that. So, hopefully, they get a good commissioner in there and hopefully things can get fixed up."
"...The UFC was actually there when I was going through my appeal. They saw the way my case was handled and they were sickened by it. You know it's not right that you treat somebody's life like that. You know, this is my life. They should at least give me a fair opportunity to defend myself and they didn't do that. They treated my case like complete garbage."
On if he would ever fight in California again:
"I don't know. I really don't know. I would have to wait and see how things are taken place there because it wasn't just Armando that I felt had some issues too. I would like to see what happens and play it by ear, I guess. But that's a step in the right direction."
For the record, Sherk also predicts a victory for Joe Stevenson over Kenny Florian and Brock Lesnar over Randy Couture at UFC 91, as well as Georges St-Pierre over Penn at UFC 94.
Sherk also mentioned that he will be undergoing knee surgery next week to repaire a torn meniscus he suffered a week before his fight against Hermes Franca at UFC 73. He expects to be back in action again in April 2009.
Special thanks to Round 5 for hooking us up with Sherk. Be sure to check out their Series 2 line featuring Sherk, Anderson Silva, Rich Franklin and Wanderlei Silva in stores next week.
