Jared Shaw's cell phone has a new out-going message this week:

“This is the voicemail of Jared ‘Skala’ Shaw. Leave me a message and I will return it at my earliest opportunity. If this is a member of the media, I will not be returning your call. I’m sorry. Namaste.”

We know it’s been a bad month for Skala. First, he freaked out at cageside when his meal ticket Kimbo Slice got KOed by Seth Petruzelli. Then, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation started a preliminary investigation into possible fight-fixing by EliteXC. Now, he’s out of a job.

But Shaw certainly always had a lot to say when things were going well for his company. Whether that meant ripping KJ Noons or propping up Kimbo and Gina Carano or trying to slight humorous bloggers for no apparent reason, he was never lost for words.

So now that ProElite is on the rocks, he’s nowhere to be found? And all we get is an apology by-way of voicemail? Frankly, we expected better from the MMA impresario.

Granted, Shaw has been taking some shots in the media the last two days, but it would probably go a bit better for him if he was around to defend himself. As it stands now, we just have to take the word of former Icon Sport owner and ProElite consultant T. Jay Thompson, who had this to say to MMAWeekly.com about Shaw’s outburst during Slice’s loss to Petruzelli:

“I was there cageside and watched the whole thing happen …,” Thompson said. “Watching Jared Shaw jumping up and down and screaming as a representative of the company, I think was disgusting and embarrassing.”

Maybe in the end, Thompson is also right on the money in summing up the ProElite demise:

“When things are going good, anyone can promote a show,” Thompson said. “Kimbo Slice knocking someone out, it’s pretty easy to get good ratings. It’s when crises happen that you earn your money as a promoter. It isn’t an exact science. The people that have been at the helm of EliteXC didn’t have the years of experience that are needed to promote MMA shows.”

Well, at least Shaw slipped in a "Namaste" there at the end, just so we know he hasn't lost his cool.
