Since KJ Noons was clearly not willing
to let the cat out of the bag in terms of the main reason behind his displeasure with ProElite earlier today, I figured I would ask
our good friend Jared Shaw if he had any idea as to why Noons (or his agent, Mark Dion) are not feeling the love right about now.
As a matter of fact, if you think about it, all this time we really had no clue as to why the Noons camp was so unhappy.
Well, ladies and gents, I think we may have found our reason.
When I asked Shaw why he believes Noons has refused to fight on October 4th, Shaw hypothesized that it had something to do with his boxing career.
According to Shaw, when Noons first signed with EliteXC, he also signed a deal with Gary Shaw Productions (Shaw's boxing promotion). This was a seperate deal from his ProElite contract but since Shaw was linked to both organizations there was an obvious correlation between the two contracts.
Despite the fact that Noons was enjoying success in his MMA career, he was still very interested in pursuing a career in boxing and, according to Shaw, he and his camp felt Gary Shaw wasn't doing enough to promote him in the boxing world.
"Mark Dion called me a month ago claiming Gary was in breach of his boxing contract," Shaw's son, Jared said. "So, I spoke to Gary about it and he said, 'let them go fight somewhere else.'"
"(Dion) said that he was upset because Gary promised to build
both careers. So, I said, 'if you want to sue Gary or you think he is in breach of contract let
me facilitate the process. We'll still approve all future boxing fights...as long as you continue to honor your EliteXC contract."
According to Shaw, the next morning Gary Shaw Productions released Noons from his boxing contract but he has yet to hear from Dion again. Amazingly, Shaw says he hasn't spoken to Dion in close to a month.
"I called him four times to give him a chance to say his side of the story before I went to the press and he has not called me back," Shaw said. "Boxing has nothing to do with this. We are a mixed martial arts promotion and Noons is a mixed martial
arts champion."
Is this truly the reason behind Noons' state of discontent with ProElite? I guess we'll find out soon enough.
