We just came back from the EliteXC press conference at the Stockton Arena and the only word that comes to mind is "surprised."
Surprised that there was virtually no media there. Seriously, maybe a handful...tops.
Surprised that the Shaws (Gary and Jared) were nowhere to be found.
Surprised that no one is willing to give a straight answer as to where they are hiding. Trust me, I asked around.
Surprised that there appears to be zero excitement online, around town or even in the local media for this event.
Oh, also surprised that another fighter dropped the now legendary "how's taste" line on us. You'll have to wait to find out who it was but, trust me, it was good and, again, uninitiated on my part.
EliteXC CEO Doug Deluca (aka the new Gary Shaw in terms of being the face of the promotion now) has said on several occasions that they don't expect to pull anything close to the 2.7 rating the first CBS show garnered. At this rate, here's hoping they come close to UFN 14's 2.1 rating on Saturday night because I'm starting to have my doubts. It's unfortunate because I think this card -- talent-wise -- is much deeper than the first CBS show. I guess we're about to find out just how much Gina Carano and Kimbo Slice are worth to the company.
